Channel Islands OG Flyer Review
The OG Flyer is an updated version of The Flyer, the most popular CI board from around 20 years ago. If you are looking for an all-around shortboard to ride in mediocre, fun, and even good waves, this board will deliver.
I enjoyed this board over more than a couple of seasons at Reef Road, the perennial South Florida good wave spot. It works in small, rippable waves to overhead fun waves and everything in between. It is probably the most forgiving board I’ve ever ridden; once you jump on it pretty much just feels glued to your feet and honestly took my surfing confidence to a whole new level.

Although this board is designed off the classic Flyer design, it is very much a modern day shortboard due to the length and rocker characteristics they’ve since updated. I rode this as a PU, although if I bought it again today I’d probably opt for the EPS option.
This was also the first board I used with Futures fins, the AM1 Blackstix 3.0, and was when I made the switch from FCS to Futures given the drive I experienced from these fins.
Overall, the OG Flyer is a smart choice for an everyday surfboard from a trusted brand. It’s the sort of shortboard that works for everyone.
